Using Clone for Extraction and Backgrounds!

Back in December, we released an awesome tool called Clone (in the Create:Advanced section)! Boy, was that exciting! Now Picnikers can duplicate parts of their photos. See this blog post for the whole scoop.

Well, I've taken it to new heights! In the first example, I completely removed 3 people from the picture. I thought I'd make the beach view look a little less cluttered and voila...they're gone.  To do it, I simply hit the Source Selection button and selected a section of sand that could duplicate to paint over their legs, I selected a new source in the water for their bodies, and then selected and matched up the pier over their heads. Amazing huh?!

In the second example, I added the jet ski to a new background. Instead of the jet ski towing another jet ski, it's riding solo now in front of the battleship! To do this, I created a two-paneled collage with the battleship photo on one side and the jet skis photo on the other side. Then selected part of the jet ski as my source and simply painted it onto the other picture, in the water in front of the battleship. To make it look seamless, I used the Eraser tool to remove any of the old background surrounding the jet ski.  After I completed the clone, I cropped the finished photo out of the collage!

In the third example, I completely removed myself from a group photo. For this picture, I cloned the background wall right over my body. I also drew in the rest of the girl's arm next to me by cloning her already black shirt.

Want to remove some clutter from a picture, completely change the background, or remove someone from the photo? Then check out this nifty Clone tool!

Just tried the steps from your last example to remove Mr. Random and some unnecessary junk from my photo making it cleaner and more frame worthy:

I've created a mini-tutorial using the Clone tool to isolate a person in a photo and place them on a blank background.  Might be useful for some?

Those pics are amazing. You wouldn't think that any editing has been done. I'm gonna try and learn more about this.
