Welcome to the Educators' thread!

This is the place for teachers, professors, doctors, activities coordinators, and other educators to share their experiences with and ideas for using Picnik in a classroom setting.  Picnik makes photo editing possible for masters students and kindergarteners alike, so all are welcome! At the moment Picnik doesn't have any specific programs set up for educators, but we wanted to provide a place for us all to discuss the potential benefits of using Picnik as a classroom tool.

If you're a teacher using or thinking about using Picnik, feel free to introduce yourself and tell us a little about your class! We would love to hear your thoughts and testimonials, like this one from Christina Germano. Also, if you have questions that other educators already using Picnik might be able to answer, post them here to discuss.

For general Picnik tips & tricks, check out the Picnik 101 forum. For troubleshooting, see the General Discussion, Help, & FAQs forum. For questions, comments, and concerns relating to Picnik in the classroom reply here!

If you would like to purchase Premium accounts in bulk for educational purposes, please email us at contact@picnik.com and we'll help make it smooth and rewarding.

Thanks everyone!

We are using Picnik to edit our Yearbook photos since most of the students don't know Photoshop and we find this the best and easiest to use.  Our problem is that Yahoo is blocked by our district so the kids can't save their pics back to it.  We are saving them back to our original upload location.  Is there a method to change the resolution to 300 pixels.  I was able to get it to 180 by maxing out the compression size.  We have to have them at 300 to post to our yearbook site.

Thanks........Debi

Hi Debi,

Thanks for writing in! You cant increase the resolution of a photo after it has been taken. The best thing to do is to upload the original file, at its highest resolution.

A trick to find your images PPI, also known as DPI, can be done by dividing the pixel measurement in an image by the size in inches that it will be printed at, we obtain the resolution in PPI (pixels per inch).  For example, an image which measures 1800 x 1200 pixels and will be printed at 6" x 4" size has a resolution of 300 PPI  (1800 pixels

We, at Picnik, would like to give a shout out to the eleven Purdue students who worked very hard on a comprehensive project examining Picnik as a resource for educators like you! They've compiled a great wiki (currently hosted on Purdue's IT site) that has a lot of helpful information.  We encourage you to check it out here and scope out all their research and ideas.

If you scroll down to Section III, Picnik used in educational and learning situations, they've laid out some great examples of lesson plans. The intended classrooms range from grade three to post secondary.

This is a very impressive compilation of information we just had to share. A big thanks to Mitchell and the team!

While I am no teacher, I am a student. I am a senior member of the journalism team at my school. I use picnik to edit photos for the yearbook, along with other events. Indeed it is a lifesaver.

I find life to be an inescapable maze. So I chose one thing; Enjoy what I have, while I have it.
