I am having trouble saving my photo!

If you have trouble saving photos to your computer with the big green Save Photo button, try the Basic Downloader link. This gives you two additional ways to save your masterpiece. First you browser will try to download it for you. If that doesn't work, first check to see if your browser blocked the file by clicking the bar at the top of the screen then selecting Download File, or click the "here" link and it gives you the option to right click and "Save picture as..."

Also, if you are running Adobe flash player 10 there is a direct upload feature that allows you to start editing your photo before it is fully uploaded. That means you could be trying to save it before it is fully uploaded in which case we give you an error (often it will say "processing 1 item").  This happens more often with collages as we try to upload all the images quickly.  Try giving it a few minutes after uploading (or hitting "done!" in collage) before heading over to the Save & Share tab.

Tip: Make sure you are signed in to your Picnik account first. When you are finished editing your photo hit the "Save & Share" tab. That way you can save the photo to your Facebook, Myspace, Flickr account, or directly to your computer. Also, this will put the photo into your Picnik History page under the Photos tab.

Still having trouble? Try to reset Picnik in a fresh state (warning: you may lose your edits!):
Clear your cache:
In IE7: click Tools:Delete Browsing History: then click "Delete Files" and "Delete Cookies." No need to "Delete History."
In IE6: go to Tools:Internet Options and click "Delete Files..."
In Firefox: go to Tools:Clear Private Data.
In Safari: choose Edit:Empty Cache.
Now close down your browser and open it again before refreshing Picnik.com

If you're still having trouble, please post more details here or try going back to the General Discussion and searching in the search bar!

Thank you!

Vista users running the virus detector AVG and using Internet Explorer (IE) seem to be running into an issue where AVG and some IE security settings are interfering with Picnik saving to your local drive. We have contacted AVG and are working on preempting this issue for the future!

There are two things for you to try:

1. In IE go to Tools (the gear icon): Internet Options: Security: Trusted Sites: sites: then add https://www.picnik.com  to the list

2. Go back to Tools: Internet Options: Security: uncheck "Enable Protected Mode." Please be cautious of the sites you navigate to while protected mode is off or reenable it after you've finished using Picnik.

We have a developer looking into this issue right now. We need to find a way for your security settings to see Picnik files (your photo files) as safe and not a security threat, otherwise it deletes them as you've seen.

As for any issues with hidden file types, go to: Start: Control Panel: Folder Options: View: uncheck "hide extensions for known file types."

We apologize for the inconvenience!

Hey Azso -

Flickr had some trouble over the weekend, can you try again?

Also if you were trying to replace your photo (available to Flickr Pro members) check out this notice from the Flickr team:  "Some files not available for replace, editing, rotating"

Let us know if you continue to have trouble!

I'm also having problems saving so I always have to use the basic uploader, which is a major pain.
But every time I save a photo and try to upload a new one it says there is a runtime error and it shuts my Internet Explorer down and restarts. It's SOOOOOO annoying.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi blueonfire!

Sorry to hear about that nasty Runtime Crash you are running into! We do actually know about this crash and recommend that if you are seeing it to upgrade your Flash software. Check out this post that is related specifically to the Runtime Error for additional information and instructions:

Hi- I have used Picnik for a few months now and it has NEVER done what it is doing today- I can successfully upload, edit, and save pictures to picnik and my computer, but when I re-save an edited pic and try to open it back up on my computer, it shows the image as just a "flattened" horizontal line, like the image was compressed. No settings on my computer have been changed or altered, and I was just using picnik yesterday and was not having these problems. I save my edited pics as a compression of "8" on the save page, so I know thats not it. On the image properties on my computer, it says:
Dimensions: 1024 x 768
Width: 1024 pixels
Height: 768 pixels
Horizontal Resolution: 1 dpi
Vertical Resolution: 180 dpi
Bit Depth: 24
Compression: (blank)
Resolution Unit: 2
Compressed Bits/Pixel: 3 -------------- CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!?

Hi blinginquenn,

Thanks for contacting us here at Picnik! The direct upload feature on Picnik allows you to edit your photo while we do the behind the scenes uploading for you. If you're trying to save your photo right away it may not be fully uploaded yet. You can try waiting a little longer before saving, or downsizing your photo before saving.

I am also having the same problem saving my pictures, it says processing one item remaining, FOREVER.  I even used the basic uploader and it told me unrecoverable error in the server.  What is going on?? This is very frustrating!  It has worked for me in the past, and I even tried different computers and it STILL won't work!  Please come up with a solution!!

You aren't the only one. I have been having the same problem now for two weeks! I have contacted someone about it and they are trying to say its the flash drive, system, or maybe the problem is the picture. I have been using Picnik for 2 years now for my photography business and have never had a problem like this!!! I can't work right now because of this problem and would really like for it to get fixed! Please notify your tech support about this problem. Let them know the images aren't fully uploading which is why when we try to save it says Processing...1 item remaining. Than when the time is up on that it goes to " Whoops! Your Photo failed to upload! looks like we're having communications problems. In the meantime don't refresh your browser or you'll lose your changes." Than it gives you two options to click on. Retry Now, Retry When I Save. When I click on Retry Now it says Processing....1 item remaining and than will say try uploading again. All this happens after I have already done my edits to the picture. The program isn't seeing that the pictures are uploaded and its not uploading them correctly. When I go to my library to click on a photo I just uploaded the picture is all gray and you can't see what it was. I have tried several different computers and every computer I try has this same problem! Other photographers who also use your program are experiencing the same problems. Can you please tell your tech. support people about this problem so that it can be fixed?

DITTO!!!!!! To everything pasyon had said!!  I have a premium package, and feel that this issue needs to be resolved ASAP!!  I am losing faith in Picnik, with ALL the problems they are having lately. It will sometimes tell me that there is an Internal Server Error, after a long period of processing time.  How frustrating!!!!

Hey everyone!

Thanks to many of you for writing in and letting us know about issues that you have been experiencing when uploading over the last few days. These uploading issues are often times the source of many of the saving problems that may have also been occurring lately.

We have recognized this as an issue that several users are running into, but haven't been able to identify the source of the problem. We have done a little rearranging that we hope has solved this uploading issue for everyone. If you have been having uploading trouble (ie: error messages, broken images, processing messages) over the past few days, please try logging on to Picnik and uploading again. Any one who can report back on the experience they are having now will be very helpful in finding a final resolution to this issue!

Thanks
