I know what you're thinking, what happened to releases 9 and 10? To catch you up with the story so far...
Release 9 went live Feb 2 and was mostly a bug fix release but also included the oft-requested Resize feature.
Release 10 went live Feb 13 and added
- photo orientation intelligence (Picnik rotates images to match their Flickr rotation)
- killer technology to dramatically improve upload/download speeds. We don't have a catchy name for it but essentially Picnik simultaneously serves images as it acquires them, whether they're being uploaded or pulled from another site like Flickr.
Which brings us to our latest and greatest,
Release 11!
This one has been cooking awhile so we could bring you something special. The first thing you're going to notice are the new
Special Effects under Creative Tools. Not only are there a bunch of them,
14 (up from 6), but they are
way cool and now come with
customizing controls so you can tweak away to get exactly the effect you're looking for.
We've got your basic effects:
Sepia,
Black & White,
Boost,
Soften,
Vignette and
Matte all with sliders and color controls. Click

Help and some
great tips on how to get more from even basic effects.
Then we added a couple handy border effects:
Border and
Rounded Edges so you can frame your photos or just make them a little more interesting before dropping them in a blog post or wherever.
After that we start showing off some of the effects that will be part of our premium Picnik:
Tint,
Infrared Film,
Focal Black & White,
Focal Soften,
Doodle, and
Gooify. You'll have to play with them to believe this is possible in a web browser. They're all free to use while Picnik is in Beta and there many more to come. Let us know if there are any in particular you'd like to see.
Horizontal Flip and
Vertical Flip have been added to the Rotate tool for those times when only a mirrored image will do.
In the better late than never category, you can now
change the password and email address on your Picnik account. Select
Account Settings from the
Help menu.
Beyond all these tangible features we've also been scaling up our server infrastructure so we can maintain the great speed and responsiveness we have now as we bring more and more Picnikers into the fold.
P.S. If you go to
www.picnik.com and aren't seeing all this great new stuff you may have to refresh the page or clear your browser cache.
