If we make any significant updates to the API, this is where we'll tell you about them -- along with any other interesting tidbits we think you might want to know about.

We've added a new section to the API documentation describing some tips and tricks to help you on your way.  This new "best practices" section will continue to be expanded as we come up with new time-savers for you.

Today we put out a nice Picnik API update with a little something for everyone to enjoy!

  • We've added some new parameters that let you control the image coming out of Picnik:_out_quality, _out_format, _out_size, _out_width, _out_height.
  • There's also a new parameter called "_thumbs" that you can use to have Picnik send you a range of thumbnails for the exported image.
  • We've added some documentation for the "_locale" parameter that some of you have been using for a while.
  • Filename extensions (such as .jpg) are back on the files that are exported from Picnik.
  • And, we've added some cool new graphs to your API key page so you can see just how popular your Picnik integration is.

All of the new parameters are documented in the API reference section http://www.picnik.com/info/api.  To see your API charts, visit your key page (http://www.picnik.com/keys/manage), then click on the "stats" link next to your API key.

Great!!

_out_format was something we were really needing Smiley

We are using it now and works great!

Thanks for all this great work!

Best regards

A fresh new release of the Picnik-in-a-Box code is up at http://www.picnik.com/info/api/tutorials/packing-a-picnik.

This release is a major rewrite, with much simpler, better organized code, and a few cool new features (configurable borders and margins, callbacks) to make your Picnik integration shine.  It's also backwards-compatible with the old Picnik-in-a-box code, so feel free to drop it in place and give it a try.

We've also got a new sample showing off how well Picnik-in-a-Box works in a Javascript-based Web 2.0 application.  Check out the Edit Gallery: http://api.picnik.com/samples/EditGallery.

Enjoy!
