I'm also +1 for a post-resize-action. In our usecase, it would suffice if the image is scaled to a fixed dimension, no matter what the original was like. As a hint to the user, it would be great if the target apsect ratio would be somehow visible to the user before he submits the image, like in an overlay or s.th.

So, regarding your questions, it would be sweet if all of what you mentioned would be possible, and configurable via options :-)

I'm working on incorporating Picnik into a site where users post lots of images.  I've got it set up for editing individual images one at a time, but it would be nice if the API supported initialization of the library.  That way we could let users make collages of their pictures in a very seamless way.

Thanks for any help, and thanks for making Picnik.

Hi, I think a great feature would be the ability to put a site-defined background image which the user can then edit over.  This allows for overlays of an image.  You could put a blank t-shirt up there or a mug or other blank setup which can then be sent to a printer for a bespoke tshirt etc.
Fantastic software by the way - infinitely better than the competition!

Great software, so far it seems miles ahead of the pack but there are a couple of features that would be helpful. See, I plan on writing a photo editing module for Gallery2 and have been searching for just the right editing software for this task. So far, none have had the one feature that I really need (for a scapbooking website for my wife). I need to be able to include my own clipart (or stickers I believe you call them) and templates. Although, I can work around the templates thing by just creating jpg templates that pictures can be layered on top of however, just as another mentioned above, I need my users to be able to select from the templates (or images) from my own library.

The pixel size limit is also a big hindrance since my wife wants her users to be able to print to a wide variety of mediums, including posters. Here is a link that might help. http://www.gbradley.co.uk/2009/02/18/image-processing-with-flash-bitmapdata-size-limit/

One last thing that bugs me just a little bit; If I do all the work to integrate your solution into my website for my users and a redistributable Gallery2 module, if they sign up for your premium service don't you think a commission would be fair? Some kind of affiliate system you know. If the community of developers out there are driving sales towards your business it only seems fair that we be given some sort of reward for our efforts. I think with something like an affiliate system in place your product could easily saturate the market and become "The" online editor of choice.

Thanks for the great product and keep up the good work.

Hi Dave,

The link you posted isn't working; here's a correct link: http://gbradley.co.uk/2009/02/22/image-processing-with-flash-work-around-the-bitmapdata-size-limit/

The size limit is relaxed in flash 10; now images can be up to 8k per side with a total maximum size of 16M pixels.  Possibly okay for posters, but in any event that's a reasonable limit for software that needs to co-exist with a browser.  On the other hand, we'd also love to see no limit at all and have a few ideas of our own for how to make that happen.

As for templates: unfortunately, we don't have a good way for you to upload your own templates or stickers right now.  It's something that's on our long-term plan, but I can't say when that will be available.

And finally, we've done some investigation into putting together an affiliate program, but couldn't find one that made sense for our users.  We'd love to have a system to reward partners that are active in promoting Picnik to our users, while at the same time acknowledging the incredible value that all our API partners realize when they enhance their websites with our free tools.  Do you have any recommendations for us?

Regards,
Steve

Love your API!!  I recently switched from another similar API, and Picnik is so much easier to use.  I also appreciate the support you provide - something the other guys obviously didn't consider a priority.

I'd love to see a way of setting exact output dimensions (something like _out_exactwidth and _out_exactheight) and warning users when the image they're exporting doesn't fit those criteria, giving them a chance to go back and fix it before they export.

I would like to be able to save an image for later editing. I would like this for two reasons. The first is so that I can create picnik "templates" that people can open and be able to edit the text elements. Second so people can then save them back to our server and open them later with all elements still editable.
